This practice will be choice-based and accessible, inviting participants to explore yoga in a playful and curious way, with attention to adapting practices to meet our individual needs.

Meet the Facilitator:

Chey Johns (she/her) identifies as Jamaican and Anishinaabekwe (an Anishinaabe woman) from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, and is currently living in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB). As a certified trauma-informed yoga teacher and Master of Counselling Psychology student, she integrates traditional yoga techniques with practices to support psychological well-being. Chey is dedicated to ensuring that yoga is accessible and inclusive to everyone. Chey aims to create an environment in her classes where people can cultivate a connection with their bodies through choice-making and present-moment awareness. Chey combines elements of both Vinyasa and Yin/Restorative yoga to achieve a balance between flowing and slowing down. She also incorporates mindfulness, breathwork, and yoga philosophy into her classes.

Chey offers community care by working alongside various local and national nonprofits, collectives, and organizations committed to social justice, decolonizing, trauma-informed, and anti-oppression work. Chey works with Canmore Counselling & Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School to provide counselling, wellness, and community support and identifies as 2SLGBTQIA+.
